The Top Construction Companies in Missouri: 2026 Rankings
Between July and November of 2026, our research team reviewed over 40 construction companies present across Missouri's major building markets, from the Kansas City and St. Louis metros to Springfield and Lake of the Ozarks. Each firm was scored across seven weighted criteria to identify which ones best combine architect-led design, single-source accountability, site-sensitive delivery, and verified client satisfaction. The criteria and their weights go as follows:
Architect-Led Design Leadership (25%): Whether a state-licensed architect personally leads design and stays involved through construction, because the person who draws a project should answer for how it is built.
Single-Contract Design-Build and Cost Transparency (20%): Whether one contract covers both design and construction and clients can see line-item costs, since split contracts and closed books are where budgets most often break down.
Site and Outdoor Living Integration (20%): Whether terrain, views, shoreline, pools, and outdoor living spaces are designed into the project from day one, which matters on Missouri's hillside, wooded, and lakefront lots.
Average Review Score (15%): Client ratings averaged across Google, Houzz, HomeAdvisor, and other review platforms, because verified client experience is the clearest independent check on a firm's claims.
Awards and Recognition (10%): Verified honors from national and regional building, remodeling, and design organizations, which signal quality judged by industry peers.
Year Founded (5%): How long the firm has operated, as a measure of stability and accumulated subcontractor relationships.
Price Range (5%): Project flexibility on a scale from one dollar sign (least flexible) to five dollar signs (most flexible), reflecting how wide a range of project sizes and budgets the firm can serve.

1. TXR Architects + Constructors, for architect-led design-build across Missouri
TXR began as an architecture practice, not a construction company. Principal Tom Roof, AIA, ran his own architectural practice for two decades before partnering with builder Rocky Corpe in 2011 to bring construction in-house, so the person who designs each project is the same person accountable for building it, all the way through the final walkthrough. Clients work under one contract with open-book accounting, which gives them direct visibility into subcontractor bids, material costs, and project expenses before and during construction.
The firm's lakefront work at Lake of the Ozarks shapes how it approaches every site. Tom Roof evaluates views, topography, access, and shoreline conditions before design begins, and pools, covered outdoor rooms, and outdoor kitchens are planned as part of the architecture rather than added after the house is resolved. Because TXR is headquartered at Lake Ozark, St. Louis and Kansas City clients building at the lake get a team on the ground that manages permitting, inspections, and daily coordination while they follow progress from home, and the firm has held BBB A+ accreditation since 2012.
Location: Lake Ozark, MO (serving St. Louis, Kansas City, and Lake of the Ozarks clients)
Founded: 2011
Avg. Review Score: 5.0/5
Price Range: $$$$$
Services: Architecture, custom home design-build, renovations, interior remodels, pools and outdoor living, commercial design-build
Summary of Online Reviews
---
Clients consistently praise TXR Architects + Constructors for Tom Roof's "hands-on architectural oversight" from the first site visit through the final walkthrough.
2. Mosby Building Arts, for established St. Louis design-build remodeling
Mosby Building Arts has served St. Louis homeowners since 1947, making it the longest-operating firm on this list. Led by Scott Mosby, known regionally as KMOX's Home Answer Man, the company keeps registered architects, certified designers, and builders under one roof, and it has earned national Chrysalis Awards, Remodeler of the Year honors from Professional Remodeler magazine, and a regional NARI Contractor of the Year award. Its review base is one of the deepest in the state, with hundreds of client ratings across Houzz and Google-sourced platforms.
Mosby's model is built for remodeling rather than ground-up construction, so buyers planning a new custom home or a lakefront build will need a different type of firm. Its architects work within a larger design department rather than one named architect personally leading each project from concept to completion, and site-driven outdoor living is a smaller share of its portfolio than kitchens, baths, basements, and additions.
Location: St. Louis, MO
Founded: 1947
Avg. Review Score: 4.8/5
Price Range: $$$$
Services: Design-build remodeling, kitchen and bath remodels, additions, basements, exteriors, universal design
Summary of Online Reviews
---
Clients consistently praise Mosby Building Arts for a remodeling process that is "flawless from start to finish" and results they describe as amazing.
3. Homoly Design + Build, for nationally recognized Kansas City custom homes
Homoly Design + Build has served the Kansas City market since 1997 and is led by the father-son team of Andrew and Mason Homoly. Andrew Homoly was named a finalist for NAHB's national Custom Home Builder of the Year in 2023, the firm holds three Best of Houzz awards, and its projects have won Kansas City Homes and Gardens Home of the Year honors, including a modern home on Weatherby Lake. Its in-house design team and concierge process guide clients from early planning through construction.
Homoly's design work runs through an in-house team, and its public materials do not name an individually licensed architect who personally leads each project through construction. The firm's focus is the Kansas City metro, so clients building elsewhere in Missouri will find a thinner local track record, and its typical starting point of roughly $700,000 makes it a less practical fit for smaller renovations.
Location: Kansas City, MO
Founded: 1997
Avg. Review Score: 4.8/5
Price Range: $$$$
Services: Custom home design-build, luxury new construction, remodeling, high-performance and green building
Summary of Online Reviews
---
Clients frequently highlight a Homoly Design + Build team they describe as "committed and knowledgeable" at every stage of the build.
4. Liston Design Build, for award-winning St. Charles County remodeling
Liston Design Build traces its roots to 1984, when Mike Liston started a one-man remodeling operation, and it is now led by Keith Liston and co-owner Jeanne Liston, who heads design. The firm works under a single contract for design and construction, took home multiple Remodeling Project of the Year awards at the 2024 HBA St. Louis awards, and saw Andrea Liston Jones named Design Consultant of the Year. Its work spans kitchens, baths, lower levels, additions, and outdoor living structures across St. Louis and St. Charles counties.
Liston's public materials do not describe a licensed architect leading design, and the firm's portfolio centers on remodeling rather than full custom new construction. Its footprint is concentrated in eastern Missouri, which limits its relevance for clients building in central or western parts of the state, including lake properties.
Location: St. Charles, MO
Founded: 1984
Avg. Review Score: 4.9/5
Price Range: $$$$
Services: Kitchen and bath remodels, basement finishes, additions, outdoor living structures, custom homes
Summary of Online Reviews
---
Clients consistently praise Liston Design Build for handling "the full design through build process seamlessly" and turning their vision into reality.
5. Hibbs Homes, for high-performance St. Louis custom homes
Founded in 2004 by Kim and Jan Hibbs, Hibbs Homes focuses entirely on custom home construction and has built a national reputation for energy-efficient building. The firm built the first Active House in North America, was named a RESNET Builder of the Month, earned the St. Louis HBA's 2020 Custom Home of the Year for a modern prairie home in Town and Country, and has collected five Houzz awards. It now builds in both the St. Louis region and Park City, Utah.
Hibbs builds new custom homes only, so clients with renovation, addition, or commercial work will need to look elsewhere. Its process is guided by design consultants, with architects brought in by project rather than one licensed architect leading every design, and its attention is divided between two markets more than 1,000 miles apart.
Location: Chesterfield, MO
Founded: 2004
Avg. Review Score: 4.7/5
Price Range: $$$
Services: Custom home design-build, luxury homes, energy-efficient and high-performance construction
Summary of Online Reviews
---
Clients consistently praise Hibbs Homes, describing "great people, excellent communication, and all around fantastic experience" from design through move-in.
6. Cardinal Crest Homes, for design-focused Northland Kansas City homes
Cardinal Crest was founded in the summer of 2011 by Adam Shaeffer and Joseph Christensen and has completed more than 100 custom homes in the Kansas City area. The firm describes itself as design-build, offers in-house architectural services and step-by-step interior design consulting, and has been a featured builder on the KCHBA Artisan Home Tour. Its homes are concentrated in Northland communities such as Liberty, Kearney, and Smithville.
Cardinal Crest's materials do not identify a licensed architect who personally leads each project, and its public review profile is more mixed than most firms on this list, averaging 4.0 out of 5 on Google. Its work is concentrated north of the river in the Kansas City metro, with limited presence elsewhere in Missouri.
Location: North Kansas City, MO
Founded: 2011
Avg. Review Score: 4.0/5
Price Range: $$$$
Services: Custom homes, design-build, remodeling, home additions
Summary of Online Reviews
---
Clients frequently highlight that the Cardinal Crest Homes team listens closely and will "work so hard to make the building process smooth" for every family.
7. Glascock Construction, for long-tenured Lake of the Ozarks building
Glascock Construction was founded in 1977 and has spent more than 20 of its 30-plus years of design-build experience at Lake of the Ozarks. Owner Tim Glascock learned the trade from his father, Owen Glascock, and the family-run firm, which now includes Dustin and Cole Glascock, handles new lake homes, garage additions, and interior remodeling around Osage Beach. It holds a BBB A+ rating, and reviewers point to a long-tenured crew and well-organized schedules with no downtime for supplies or subcontractors.
Glascock's public materials do not describe an in-house architect, so design is typically resolved through outside plans rather than within the construction team. Its average review score of 4.4 out of 5 trails most firms on this list, it has no independently verified industry awards, and its small team limits how many projects it can take on at once.
Location: Osage Beach, MO
Founded: 1977
Avg. Review Score: 4.4/5
Price Range: $$$$
Services: Custom lake homes, remodeling, garage additions, general contracting
Summary of Online Reviews
---
Clients consistently praise Glascock Construction for "outstanding service and quality construction" on their Lake of the Ozarks homes.
8. Killian Construction, for commercial construction in southwest Missouri
Killian Construction was founded in Springfield in 1948 by J.P. Killian and his son Bob, who built more than 1,500 homes in the area before the third-generation firm shifted to commercial construction. It now employs nearly 100 people, has completed projects in 28 states, and has received 20 Excellence in Construction Awards from Associated Builders and Contractors along with ABC's STEP Platinum safety award. Its portfolio includes Hammons Field and the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame.
Killian is a commercial builder that partners with an owner's architect rather than leading design in-house, and it no longer focuses on custom residential work. Public client reviews are limited, which makes its reputation harder to benchmark, and its project scale makes it a poor fit for homeowners or smaller commercial owners.
Location: Springfield, MO
Founded: 1948
Avg. Review Score: 3.2/5
Price Range: $$
Services: Commercial general contracting, construction management, design-build, preconstruction
Summary of Online Reviews
---
Clients frequently highlight that, in every project with Killian Construction, "our expectations have been exceeded".
9. Wright Construction Services, for multistate commercial general contracting
Wright Construction Services was founded in February 2006 and has grown into the largest general contractor in St. Charles County. Headquartered in St. Peters, the firm is licensed in more than 20 states and delivers education, healthcare, municipal, retail, and distribution projects through general contracting, design-build, design and preconstruction, and construction manager at risk. Clients such as the Rockwood School District have publicly credited the quality of its preconstruction work.
Wright works with outside design teams rather than an in-house architect, and its focus is institutional and commercial work rather than residential or site-driven custom projects. It has limited public client reviews and no independently verified industry awards, which makes its track record harder to compare against other firms on this list.
Location: St. Peters, MO
Founded: 2006
Avg. Review Score: 4.0/5
Price Range: $$
Services: Commercial general contracting, design-build, design and preconstruction, construction management at risk
Summary of Online Reviews
---
Clients frequently highlight the "superior pre-construction services" provided by Wright Construction Services on their projects.
